The Cameo Roadshow has seen our team, champion barista Matt Perger and the c’2 Cameo super-automatic espresso machine travel over 20,000 miles around the world. We’ve already visited Hoteres, Japan; Hotelex in China; Specialty Coffee Expo in Seattle; and the Vietnam Café show in Ho Chi Minh. And we’ve still got World of Coffee in Amsterdam and PIR Expo, Moscow to come.
At every stop, Matt’s delivered in-depth lectures on the impact of super-automatic coffee machines for today’s operators and baristas, as well as hands-on workshops showing off exactly what the machines can do. These lectures and workshops provided audiences with the most personal introduction to our latest machine possible, which revealed a lot about global trends and what the coffee world is looking for.
Here are some of the highlights and key take outs from the roadshow so far.
One continent, many reactions
The roadshow has spent a long time travelling through Asia, and reactions to the machine have differed along the way.
The audience in Japan embraced super-automation with open arms, treating the consistent technology as a no-brainer – an attitude echoed by large tourism operators and hotel chains of Vietnam in particular, who see a struggle to train and retain skilled coffee-making staff. However, due to the high level of automation already present in the country, plus the cultural interest and love of coffee across Japan, the audience also cared about the human-side of coffee in equal measure. The c’2 Cameo showed it could combine these two worlds, delivering expert coffee at the touch of a button and also freeing baristas to focus on service and customer interaction.
Meanwhile in China, the country’s pride in its own booming, specialty coffee industry was clear. While there were some doubts at first at the quality a super-automatic could deliver, the Cameo quickly showed the growing, excited crowd what it can deliver.
The one global trend
Trends differ around the world, but one message was consistent and clear across every event – people want cohesion of taste and lines. They want a machine that looks incredible and that really can deliver everything – quality, speed and consistency, every time. They want the ideal machine, and the c’2 Cameo showed that it can become that for large chains, offices and specialty coffee sites.
Each event has been memorable, filled with fantastic fellow exhibitors and enthusiastic attendees. Away from the events, Kamal Bengougam, our chief commercial officer, said his interview on NBS in Japan was a major highlight – as well as the dinners in Tokyo and Vietnam!
